What is The Area Agency on Aging?
The Older Americans Act of 1965 created agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. Programs developed that helped older adults and adults with disabilities maintain their health and independence in their homes and communities. Region 2 Area Agency on Aging was established in 1974. It is a private, not-for-profit agency serving Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee Counties
Our History
Region 2 Area Agency on Aging was first located in the Adrian City Hall and moved to the Farmhouse at Heritage Park in Adrian, with a satellite office in Jackson. The offices were combined into one and moved into the pole barn on US-12 near the Irish Hills Towers. We moved to Brooklyn in 2006 and around 2011, we added a satellite office across the street for a few years. We purchased the building directly next door to 102 N Main Street in 2015 and through renovations, our office space nearly doubled. In 2022, after much consideration, a historic decision was made to construct a new building. With a generous donation from Drs. Raymond and Francine Cole, we broke ground and constructed a new office building. In March 2023, Region 2 Area Agency on Aging became WellWise Services Area Agency on Aging. In May 2023, we moved to 107 Chicago Street, Brooklyn.
